Last week I had the pleasure of shooting Jordan and Elle’s stunning wedding in the middle of a pine forest on the edge of Opoutere beach. This beautiful beach is on the Coromandel peninsula, which is a scenic stretch of coastline where I spent a lot of time during my summer holidays.

I’d already been planning a trip to N.Z to shoot a bunch of family portraits so when Jordan & Elle’s wedding came along I decided I’d book some sessions. I shot two at Maori Bay and Muriwai (west coast beaches near Auckland), one at Tairua beach (Coromandel) and one at Whitford (East Auckland).

It was so cool to be home and shooting amongst the beautiful scenery that New Zealand has to offer. I’m definitely planning to book more weddings and family sessions in N.Z so maybe I’ll see you soon.

Before I begin...

I’ve been going over in my mind all day about what to write for my first blog post. I guess we all want it to be amazing or symbolic or whatever, but I think I’m going to start with just a simple thank you.

I’d love to believe I landed on planet earth with a totally unique vision of how I see the world and how I create my art. Maybe I did, maybe I didn’t. Like everyone, I think it’s probably true that my way of seeing and the way I translate that into my creative process is hugely influenced by the work of others. It’s unavoidable, isn’t it?

With this in mind, I’d like to sincerely thank the many people (and even a house) who have inspired me to craft and refine my own vision and creative voice.

In no particular order…Thank you Helmut Lang, Robert Mapplethorpe, The Starn Twins, Yoshimoto Nara, Paolo Roversi, Richie Hawtin, Tadao Ando, Andy Warhol, Loretta Lux, Takeshi Kitano, Paolo Sorrentino, David Lynch, Helmut Newton, Diane Arbus, Neil Young, Casa Malaparte, Jean Luc Godard, Jonas Peterson, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Nobuhiko Kitamura, Ann Demeulemeester, Juergen Teller, Sean Flanigan, Fer Juaristi, Daido Moriyama, Douglas Copeland, Emmanuel Monzon, Mert & Marcus, Mark Rothko, Joan Miro, Margaret Keane, Clare Shenstone, Jeremy & Ash Parsons, Larry Clark, Nan Goldin, Guy Bourdin, Mary Corse, David Umemoto, Susanne Bier, Nanni Moretti, Yukio Mishima, Kim Ki-duk, François Ozon, Anselm Kiefer & Anish Kapoor. They’ve been the most influential, but there’s many more….Welcome to my blog.
